Eye witnesses ran to the phones and the scene of the accident when they heard a boom or ” loud shot,” when an intoxicated truck driver hit a utility pole.
According to the police phone calls, civilians saw the truck crash into the pole, and then a female driver stop her car and rush out to render aid.
She was able to pull the intoxicated driver out of the car only one minute before the car caught on fire.
The woman was seen as a hero, but the 52-year-old defendant is being charged with a DUI, and was spotted to be on the phone right before the crash.
The defendant was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injures.
